Sketching Character

Excerpt from Chapter 5

“And what will you do, sir, when she marries?”
“Oh, she will not marry.”
“Will she not?  You will have her tending you in your dotage?”
“Yes.”  His terse answers usually annoyed her, but now she found herself charmed. It was quite disturbing.
“And how will you keep her from marrying, sir? What happens when she finds some young man irresistible?”
“As soon as I notice any interest on her part, I will invite the young man to dinner.  I will then loan him a book of poetry and encourage him to read to her.  As we know, one good sonnet will starve away any fledgling bits of feeling.”
Elizabeth looked at him in amusement.  The satisfied smile he wore was entirely too delicious.  This would not do.  Every upper hand she had gained in Hertfordshire was crashing down around her, and she would very soon find herself on equal footing with the intriguing gentleman at her side.
“It seems you have it all figured out Mr. Darcy.”
“Yes, Miss Bennet, I believe I have.”

  1. You know, providing me with a lovely snipped that makes me smile such as this one is just mean. Why?, you ask. Well, it just makes me more impatient to read your next story. Is this it? When might I be able to read it???

    1. Gail, it is so funny that you asked this. Just last night I was thinking about Sketching Character and how excited I am to start working on it again. I am so in love with this Darcy and can't wait to spend some more time with him and Elizabeth. I can tell you that it is very different than DF, but I think you'll like it. Look for it in May! Thanks Gail!
